Tradition states that during the night between the 9th and the 10th of december
1294,the Holy House of Nazareth,(the physical place of the annunciation to the
Virgin Mary and the Incarnation of the Word),was transferredy in flight by angels
from Palestine to the coast of the Marche Region,in the heart of the Italian
peninsula,after fist stopping off in Tersatto in Dalmatia. According to legend,the
holy relic was placed by the angels on a hill of the dominions of the powerful city
of Recanati,in a forest of laurel trees,from which the name of Holy Mery of Laureto
and later on Loreto

,would later come aubut.Insitde the Holy House an icon of the
Virgin painted on wood was venerated,which due to ist colour,gave origin to the
cult of the black Madonna who was consolidated even more in the XIV centurywith the appearance in the votive chapel of a wooden statue sculptured on
cedar-wood from Libya.More recent hypotheses suggest the transport of the sacred
walls of the Holy House by human hands,the walls havung been loaded onto a ship,
and having reached the hill of the laurels from the Holy Land thanks to the work
of the Crusaders.
